Tink 987: How much food should my pug puppy be eating?
I have a 2.5 lb – 8 week old pug puppy. I have been hearing a lot of different talk about how much she will eat on avergae per day. How much did your pug puppy eat? I have her on a toy breed puppy kibble.
Thanks so much.

You need to reference your food bag chart to determine what they deem appropriate for a pup of this age and size. Then you need to follow that up with the vet. Active dogs need a little more usually and less active dogs require less. The amount you will need to feed really does depend on the specific brand of food you feed. Foods like Purina have tons of fillers and a dog needs to eat more to meet nutritional needs, where as a higher quality food with no fillers will be less.
If you do use the suggested guidelines on the side of the bag, make sure you feed about 1/4 LESS than it reccommends. The regulations about guidelines are really confusing, so they over estimate and the ammounts are meant for very active dogs (at least 2mi/day run). Depending on the quality of the food, he should be eating about 1/4c twice a day. You can increase if he still seems hungry, but that should suffice. Also, make sure you are not feeding him grocery store food, Pugs can develope quite a few skin and weight problems if they are not on a good diet. I would try maybe AvoDerm puppy, or even Merrick Puppy. Good luck, and he’s a doll!
