Rebecca: How much does either a cockatoo or a parrot cost?
I have been planning to get a bird for awhile but i can’t find any site that tells me how much either a cockatoo or a parrot costs, so does anyone know how much they are?

Prices vary greatly – depending on the area in which you live, and the type of bird you want. A small cockatoo from a private breeder in a typical metropolitan area is probably around $ 1000. A black cockatoo on the other hand, can be $ 15,000! Almost any pet bird is in the parrot family, so it’s impossible to give you a range on that, except you can get a budgie for $ 50, and may pay $ 15,000 for a hyacinth macaw.
Hope this helps.
I hope where ever you live you have an avian shelter nearby and can look into adopting a second hand parrot. Adoption offers a surrendered companion parrot a chance at finding a new forever home. Adoption does not always mean “discount” most often these birds have incurred vet bills insuring they are healthy and ready for their next home.
*Volunteering with a parrot shelter/rescue is a wonderful way to meet and learn about all sorts of parrots and to find out which species may be a good fit for your lifestyle. Both now and where you hope to be in your life 10, 20 even 30 years from now, since they live so long. 🙂
Best of luck
