Hotels aren’t formally rated in the U.S. by stars. Some of the higher end hotels and motels have Michelin and AAA (an auto club) ratings, but the vast majority do not.
Prices vary substantially due to taxes by region. Motels in rural areas and small towns are considerably less expensive than big cities.
Expect to pay about $ 50 per night for a basic motel in rural areas. In the U.S., hotels do not charge by the person, so that’s $ 50 per night for the room for up to 2 people, maybe 4 if the room is suitably equipped. Breakfast usually does *not* come with a room, though a private bathroom and shower (or shower+bathtub) always comes with a U.S. motel room.
In large cities, expect to pay $ 120 or more per night for the most basic motels. For San Francisco and New York City, it could be closer to $ 200 per night. For the large cities, it’s well worth shopping around a few days in advance on a travel website: etc.
Answer by Prairie GirlThe “it’ll do” type motels you’re asking about aren’t rated. In smaller towns along the Interstate you may be able to get a room for $ 38, but the same room in a city will be double that. There’s no additional charge for the bed bugs.Answer by Flower
Where in California are you going? The cheapest is probably $ 30 a night at a chain motel in Fresno
