♫ I just crush alot ♫: How many years does it REALLY take to learn tennis?
Seriously. Tennis seems like a fairly simple game to learn. Put a racquet in someones hand who is very athletic (lots of speed and strength) and learns the fundamentals of the game and within 5 years or so of practice I see them as a top contender in pro ranks. I think that what takes time for most tennis players to develop is their athletisism. Anyone agree?

I have been around College and Pro Tennis for a number of years and here are the facts. As with every professional sport, the pros make it look easy. However if you go deeper into the subject you will find that there is quite a bit more skill involved. Go watch a tennis match at your local division one college, or find an open class tournament in your area. See the game up close and live, you will see the skill, technique, and athleticism is quite considerable. Then ask them the same question you posted here, and most will tell you it can’t be done. Actually in my opinion it can be done, but only by a select few great athletes and some very good coaching. Even then it is no guarantee they can handle the mental side of the game. Looking great on the practice court is one thing, beating a professional player is something 10 times more challenging. There are a lot of great Athletes at the Futures and Challenger levels of tennis that will never be a top contender at the pro ranks, and all of them have been playing much longer than 5 years. Go check it out and you will reach the same conclusion.Answer by sampath s
