Brasky: How long should i exercise my puppy?
My german shepherd puppy loves to take walks with me. He’s 10 weeks old and i wondered what the time limit is for a puppy of that age. He keeps up well and i think the longest walk we’ve been on so far has been around 1/2 hour. I get a little worried about hips and elbows since he’s a large breed puppy and growing fast. Is 30 minutes too long? How long of a walk should we go on?

Well, German Shepherds are meant for being attack/drug dogs, so running for long periods of time is what they do best!
Your only concern should be dehydration, so just bring some bottled water with you.
Hope that helps!
thirty minutes is a great length of time for a 10 week old.
However, my concern is your pup catching parvo or other diseases before he finishes up his 3 sets of vaccinations.
keep in mind that puppies are very prone to parvo virus, and do not have to come in contact with another dog to catch it. it is very deadly, and can be spread from an infected dog/pup via its feces, urine, and can stay in the ground for months before it dies.
I would advise you not take your puppy out, until he is finished with his vaccinations, and is given a clear bill of health by the vet, for his own safety.
I recently lost a pup six months ago due to parvo.
I took all precautions, and the parvo still got her.
I have another pup (a full sister, second litter to my other pup), and did not take her out until all of her vaccines were done, and was still hesitant, because I had to watch her sister die, very painfully, from parvo. it was not pleasant, and I couldn’t stop crying for a long time.
please don’t put your pup or yourself thru this unnecessary torture and possibly lose your pup because of parvo.Answer by Animal Expert
German Sheperds= i would say 45-60 min. a day!! They are big dogs and big dogs needs lots of exercise.Answer by Bast
I didn’t start taking Ajax out until he was 16 weeks old. The only reason for this was because he didn’t have enough of his shots. I played with him indoors and didn’t take him to the park until recently.
After he had his shots, I have been taking him out anywhere from 30-60 minutes! He LOVES walking. I take it slow because I also worry about hip and elbow dysplacia.
Be sure to ask your vet if it is okay for him to be going on walks without all his shots.
