Kelsie: How long is a cartilage piercing supposed to hurt?
I got my ear pierced a little over a week ago (not by Claires, but with a piercing gun). It really hurts like hell but it’s so cute. I’ve had this done before on my other ear and I had to take it out. Is it worth the wait? How long does it hurt for?

6 months, according to my flatmate.
grr no piercing guns allowed. they arent disenfected properly, therefore could give you hepatitus, basically any blood born disease that any other person who used that gun might of had. plus they can shatter your cartilage and give you dog ears. ok now that i got that off my chest [sorry but i want to be a professional piercer and piercing guns are one of my biggest pet peeves ever. now that i think of it, so is the words pet peeve. lol].
ok. so cartilage piercings are a very tender piercing. they tend to hurt a lot longer than most piercings. it shouldnt be throbbing unless its being touched by something or just got hit. mine was done about 6 months ago, it still hurts sometimes if i hit it wrong. so its completely normal, just baby it and the pain will eventually subside. get some sea salt solution otherwise known as saline solution. and wash it with that 1-2 times a day. every 2-3 days what i did was i would only clean it once and then i would fill a shot glass with saline solution, warm it a little, then submerge my piercing in it for a few minutes. trust me it feels soooo good. =] just try not to hit it with anything, dont sleep on that side, etc. and LITHA, Leave It The H-ll Alone. lol.
good luck, hope it turns out good.
Answer by Twiggyguns WILL take longer to heal than needles and aren’t nearly as good as needles in the first place,
depends if you keep knocking it (like i did)
mine took nearly a year to fully, fully heal.
but in generally cartilage piercing do take a long time to heal.
just dont sleep on it, dont touch it and be very careful to not to knock it
Honestly, though it sucks to hear this, it depends on the person. I just got my cartilage pierced on Monday, and though it hurt really bad the first few days, I don’t feel any pain at all now, even when I’m sleeping on it or cleaning it. But I’ve heard of people who feel pain for months afterwards, so really it’s all relative to the person.
