How long can the Nuvaring be removed for intercourse before losing its effectiveness?

Olivia M.: How long can the Nuvaring be removed for intercourse before losing its effectiveness?
I have heard on the Nuvaring website that if it bothers your partner (and this is the case) you can take it out during intercourse, but must reinsert it within 3 hours for it to remain effective. Is this 3 hours per day or 3 hours per ring (per month)?
Please note, the main question is about whether it can be removed 3 hours of each day, or if this is up to 3 hours in total for the month.

from what i can tell from what you’ve described (i looked at the nuvaring site and couldnt find anything about this btw but i may be looking in the wrong spot) you must reinsert within 3 hours after its been removed. say you remove it at 9pm before having sex, therefore you have until midnight to reinsert it. i would recommend if it bothers you or ur partner that much during sex you should ask your doctor and mb consider a diff method of birth control.
