Good question. I suppose that strictly speaking you might want to not use the phrase as of the second of January.

After that I ask people how their holiday was.

The rule of thumb I have always been told is January 6.

Reason is that is when the wisemen finally reached Bethleham. Therefore the journey is over, and it officially ends the holiday season.

You should stop saying Happy New Year to everyone when the week is over. It is very polite to say Happy Holidays and Happy New Years to other people.

Answer by tesgirl
Until you’re tired of saying it. I’m the classless person who celebrates “birthday weeks,” not days – so I would drone on about new years!! 🙂

Depends on when you see the person. I’ll be saying Happy New Year to all my co-workers in a few days but I’ll stop saying it about mid-Jan as long as I’ve been able to say it to everyone.

Answer by Mrs. Goddess
After you have already wished that person a happy new year. Otherwise, about a week later is appropriate.

Answer by Shauntavia S
