Abbie McFarlane: How long after a cartilage piercing should you start to clean it?
I got my cartilage pierced today (12th Aug) and i’ve read the aftercare guide for lobe piercings and it says not to touch or clean the piercing for the first 36 hours. Does this apply to cartilage piercings aswell? And some people have been saying not to turn the ear ring but when i got my lobes pierced i had to turn it everytime i cleaned the piercing. Do you still have to turn it for a cartilage piercing?

Haha
I got my cartilage done about 5 years ago and I was touching it as soon as I left the place.
(bad I know)
If you clean it before you go to bed, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Morning might be better though.
I had to turn mine.
It got crusty if I didn’t
okay i have mine peirced and i have two right next to each other and none of that applies for the cartileige when i got home i cleaned it that night and your supposed to clean it 2 times a day so i just did it in the morning and at night and while your cleaning it your supposed to turn it. hope this helped! good luck! 😀Answer by jenna_and_chloe
I always clean my piercings the day I get them before I go to bed, and I’ve been fine. Better safe than sorry.
And you should never touch your piercings unless you’re cleaning it.
Before you clean your piercing, you should take a QTIP and wet it with warm water, and remove the crusties off of the piercing. Then, you will be fine to move it while you clean it. Turning the jewelry while crusties are on it can cause the crusties to injure the inside of the wound and hurt, and also prolong healing.
You don’t treat a cartilage piercing the same as an earlobe, don’t use ear cleaning solution on it! Use liquid unscented dial soap, and sea salt soaks. You should clean it 3 times a day (morning, noon, night).

Thats a very helpful website if youre unfamilar with how to do sea salt soaks.
Good luck.
You should never, ever, ever rotate the jewelry no matter what the piercers at Piercing Pagoda or people online tell you. That is bad, outdated advice based on the myth that unturned jewelry will grow stuck inside the hole. It’s physically impossible. All turning the jewelry does is break down healing tissue and present the risk of infection. Read the article below. It explains, in detail, why turning the jewelry is not good.

You should clean your piercing tonight with saline solution. Never use handsoaps, Bactine, ear cleaning solution from gun piercing salons, peroxide, Betadine, iodine, rubbing alcohol or antibiotic ointments. You can either purchase H2Ocean, isotonic contact lens solution or make the saline solution yourself.
Heat 1 cup of filtered or distilled water and add 1/8-1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized (it must be a non-iodized salt) sea salt. Use a cotton ball saturated in the solution to gently loosen up crusting. Hold it to the front of the piercing until the heat dissipates. Repeat with a fresh cotton ball. Then do the same thing for the back. Rinse and then dab dry with a dry paper towel. Always make sure your hands are exceptionally clean when doing this.
Do this twice a day and that’s it. No other treatment is necessary.
Answer by jessso i have 6 ear piercings , tragus , cartilage , 2x each lobe .
i got my cartilage done 2 weeks ago and clean it twice a day (morning and night) with either soap or the stuff you get when you got it pierced . everytime you clean it twist it if its a stud , no other times should you touch it!!! and if its a hoop moving it up and down so that the soap will get in the piercing to clean it .
Answer by Jamie LYou should start cleaning it, a few days after & continue that. When I got my pierced the guy said to turn it twice a day.. So yeah, I think so.
