I think by the end of January would be appropriate. People are still saying that to me but the new year is still relatively new.

Answer by katchoo1I would say, casually (like to the person at the grocery checkout) after the first week it gets a little weird. For co-workers, first time you see them back at work or school after the holidays. For friends, maybe as late as the end of January if that’s the first time you have seen/spoken with them.
Of course after that you can begin wishing everyone a happy Chinese New year, or a Happy New Year for Trees (the Jewish holiday Tu b’Shevat usually falls in February)!
