pookeboo007: How do you stop a parrot from digging and throwing out her food?
My African grey parrot just started digging and tossing her food around about a month ago and no matter what we feed her she does it. Watching her it is like she is digging or nesting? Any suggestions?

i think that they all get that habit. try not filling the dish up to much, so that she has little choice in the seeds. then refill as neededAnswer by Robin B
It could be boredom, try giving her more time outside her cage or changing up some toys or placement of her cage (new window to out, etc). Probably though it is just an opinion and she’s throwing out what she doesn’t want. her tastes may even be changing and that’s why your seeing some seed tossed aside that she always enjoyed before.Answer by BuRn Di WiSdOm WeEd
She could he trying to form a nest but then again she could just be trying to get ur attention…which apparently worked.. =)Answer by flyboss1107
give her nesting materials…straw…paper…
felt…nothing toxic…
the bird will then make a “nest” of sorts,,,,
NEXT..pay more attention to the bird….African Grey’s are very intelligent and VERY demanding for attention..you have a 50-year companion here….so get used to spending time with your beautiful parrot…and make sure that you set aside time to train this bird…
if you don’t have time…or don’t want to put the time out…then sell the bird to a good home…and make sure to interview the potential buyers A LOT…Answer by faerijo
Wow I love greys! Do you have a timnah or congo? My little guy does the same thing. Its a forging instinct. I have read a little on this previously, and from what I get, forging is good for the bird. It stimulates. In fact there are a ton of toys you could get for forging birds. As for throwing out the food, I’m not to sure why they do it. My guy does it, so I just don’t fill his bowl to the top. I give him enough for the day, and I replace his food the next day. Its weird though because my other little Timnah does not throw out her food. Just regulate your little guys food dish though. 🙂Answer by cappy1388
Yep, My Grey does the same thing. LOL….Answer by Dana A
If you don’t have a seed catcher you need one. Another thing I do with my Goffin Cockatoo which does that is take the food out for awhile and then replace it until he stops. My other 3 parrots don’t do it though. But after seeing him do it and getting called a “Nasty bird” by my yellow nape they may be afraid to do it. LOL
