Level 7 Gymnast: How do you stay on the balance beam in a gymnastics compeitition?
How do you stay on the balance beam in a gymnastics compeitition? Is there anything that helps when you are shaking so bad from nerves lol when trying to compete?? I do great routines in practice but then go to meets and everything is worse.

Try listening to music before a routine… or practice more so that it’s routine when you’re in front of the judges to the point where they don’t even bother you.
I know how you feel… I stick every routine perfect in practice, then come meet time, I fall. What I find helps is to think about every skill individually and then you won’t be thinking about the judge.Answer by Ami ^^
You just need to focus: thinking of falling and scoring and embarrassing yourself will only make you nervous. If you know you can stick your skills, just focus on polishing them, remembering things like corrections you always forget or adding the fluidity between elements. Confidence is really all it sounds like you need: shaking off those nerves and sticking it! Remember that the competition isn’t everything and there will always be another meet. That usually helps me shoo away any last minute butterflies in the stomach. Be as confident as you are in practice!
Good luck!
