Dave: What position should I play for high school Rugby?
I am soon entering the Jr. Boys rugby tryouts (ages 14-15…Grade 9-10) and i have never played organized rugby before. I am 15 and stand at 5’11 165 pounds which is above average size for my age. I also have very very good endurance the only downside is that I’m an average sprinter. So i was wondering what position would be the best for me?

Second row would be a good position. You’re pretty tall, which helps when you’re in the lineout.
Lock your tall and not so heavy easy to liftAnswer by FoXii
you should play in the front line , as speed isn’t your Strength, so you should br good at defence, and tacklingAnswer by Bruiser38
Yeah lock or depending on the rest of the pack you might be good for a number 8. Just work on your speed mate then the oyster opens upAnswer by jskunk
depends on the size of your team. if you are one of the taller, then definitely go lock. but there could be options for you at 8 or 6..or even in the centres if you get your pace up a littleAnswer by thetallestgnome
since you claim your not that fast, that takes away most back options, so your stuck whit the forwards, ans since your tall and are not that heavy second row is a good option. With second row thought you’d have to work on your power, because if the locks don’t have power the scrums will turn out bad for you. If you’re agile and smart you could play flank, but that is if you don’t have a more suitable player on your team. (that’s the tough part of high school rugby) lastly if you got the power and the intelligence you can play 8 man. Due to your speed your stuck in the forwards, train and see what your god at in practice, and ask your coach they are always helpfulAnswer by Dave H
