How do you register a new puppy for AKC?

Felicia: How do you register a new puppy for AKC?
My husband and I had just bought a new Beagle puppy. She is not an AKC registered puppy (the breeder never registered them). How can I register her for the AKC and her litter of puppies in the future? Do I have to buy an AKC registered dog in order to register the little of puppies?

If she is not registered, you can’t just register her and puppies out of the blue. If you wanted to breed, you should have bought from a reputable breeder.

Answer by Pam
The breeder had to have the litter registered in order for the pups to be individually registerable.

Sire & Dam must be AKC registered (and of the same breed) and the breeder has to register the litter.

Even if you breed her to an AKC registered male, her pups cannot be AKC registered. BOTH parents much be AKC registered.

This is your only real option. The breeder should have (if it were a good breeder) registered with AKC and given you the form to fill out for the registered name and to become a member…

EDIT: Unfortunately the breeder would have had to have registered the litter in order for a future generation to be registered…

the breeder you got the pup from most likely was not a registered breeder with akc. In order for her to register her litter (including ur pup) the breeder has to be registered with akc along with her sire and dame. If not there is really no way for you to get papers for ur pup and you would not be able to register her litters with akc in the future since she is not registered. Even if she is, and she has a litter with another akc male, either you or the owner of the male akc dog has to be a registered akc breeder. all breeders have their own numbers.

Go to the AKC (American Kennel Club) web site and it will tell how to how have your puppy registered. And every thing you need to know.

Answer by Carol W
You can’t. The litter has to be registered by the breeder.

Answer by Amber_rae
They are both right. The parents of your dog has to be registered and if that was done then if they didn’t register the puppies themselves, they need to give you the paperwork for you to register them. You can’t just register them without having a family line to reference your dog to. I am sorry, but it won’t happen.

Answer by gallianomom2001
The breeder should have provided you with the AKC registration papers for you to register with. If the parents were AKC registered, they should have had papers on them as well. Any reputable breeder would have given you the proper paperwork with the parent information. Also: Just because your dog is registered does not mean it is worthy to breed. If you want to do it right, you need to show your dog in breed and get championship titles in order to prove your dog is up to breed standard. You will also need to OFA the dog once she reaches 2 years old. Hips and elbows are recommended. Also screening for the typical diseases that some breeds are prone to is recommended. You do have to buy an AKC registered dog to register yours with the AKC. If the puppy you got is NOT from an AKC registered pair, there is no point in even thinking of breeding the. The people you got it from were just in it for the money, and were not trying to improve the breed at all. Basically you would own a beagle type dog….no proof it’s even pure.

If the breeder did not supply the registration papers then there is no way you can register her with the AKC. Sorry but that is why people need to know what they are doing, purchase responsibly and not support irresponsible greeders through irresponsible purchase. You can’t register a litter of puppies – she should be spayed and not bred as you don’t know enough to be breeding and she isn’t registered anyway. Why do people do this sort of thing without learning first? You would likely learn more about a dish washer before buying it than you did about this living creature… sad and why we have millions of dogs being killed in shelters every year in this country…

add: AKC does NOT ‘register’ breeders. There are no registered breeders with AKC. The DOGS have the both be AKC registered, of the same breed and proper paperwork turned in before a litter can be registered and then the puppies possibly registered. The ILP is not ‘registration’ for a dog – it is an indefinite listing privilege and the dogs have to be altered prior to being able to receive ILP number for performance only competition.

this is so familiar for BYB. it the breeder didn’t reg. the litter it is possible that the parents are not reg. or at least one of them or the breeder lost her AKC privileges. I’m sorry to say there is no way to reg. the puppy with AKC.

it sounds like you bought her to breed if you are worried about puppies being reg. there are 6897 Beagles and BeagleX on pet finder in my area alone. get her spayed if you care about her or future puppies.

Answer by Monica
If the breeder never registered the puppies you can not register her or any future puppies she may have.

You will not be able to register her puppies in the future either. Even if you were to purchase an AKC male and bred her, you still could not register them. You need both the male and female to be registered AKC in order for you to register the pups.

Sorry.
