: How do you make one puppy and three cats become friends?
I am concerned that if I get a puppy that my three cats will not be friendly to it, or that the puppy will not be friendly to the cats. I want them all to play nicely and get along with each other. My thoughts were that if I got a puppy (as opposed to a full grown dog) that perhaps the cats will think it’s just another cat, or perhaps the puppy will think the cats are just other puppies? How do you integrate a puppy with cats?

Just get them all in a room, but don’t force them to meet each other right away. Let the puppy sniff around and get acquainted, and be ready to step in if there is a fight. Getting a younger dog helps because he will get used to cats more and more over the years.
The cats will not think the puppy is another cat mainly because puppies love to play and it will probably annoy the cats alot. The puppy won’t be a big problem as long as you train it not to nip. It should be fine with the cat. And the cats might not like it at first but it is just a puppy so they probably won’t be scared and as they watch it grow, they will all be able to live together. Animals are all unique though so make sure you are there when they are with each other to make sure everything goes ok.Answer by ?
Get a blanket or toy that the puppy has and introduce his/her scent to your cats and vice versa. Then when the puppy finally comes into the mix give the puppy and cats both treats or favorite foods whenever they are around each other and hopefully they will associate treats with each other. Either that or the cats might just end up ignoring the pups. Good luck!Answer by Stefani May
Ive lived with dogs and cats since i was two, and well ive brought puppies into my home with cats plenty of times. Just recently i introduced my now 5 month old puppy (was 8 weeks old then) to my two cats (both were 2 years old, they were sisters) and at first your cats will prob be a little afrad of the puppy because of its energy level jumping around and whatnot. But they should warm up to them. And your dog being a puppy and all will most likely end up loving your cats. Since he is meeting them as a puppy who is coming into their home instead of them coming into his then im positive it will all be fine. My pup is in love with my cats, expecially one of them, he will run up to her and lick her face and clean her ears for her. And she loves him too, she even clean his ears too somtimes, she will run over and lay on her back in front of him and playfull paw at his feet or tail.
Now you could get the puppies sent on a towel or a peice of your clothing and show the cats and let them smell it, and then when you bring him in let him walk around your house and smell everything, and wait a couple hours before introducing them yourself, but when you do go into a bedroom or somthing (any room) bring the dog in and then bring your cat in (holding her) and bring her near the puppy and let them sniff (whit getting too close, this may freak out you cat) but with all this done only time will tell if your cats will accept your dog which is most likely that they will. Like even now still if my dog sneaks up to my cat and freak her out she has stratched his noce plenty of time, but this isnt so much a bad thing because then your cat is asserting herself which makes her more comfortable and your dog will know what too far in the cats eyes.
