Horse L: How do you know when you are to big for a horse or pony?
One of my intructors said i was getting to big for my favorite pony. But my main intrucor did not say anthing yet. So how do i find out if i am getting to big for him without asking?

As long as you weigh less than 25% of his body weight (include the saddle in your weight), you are fine. You might look a bit big for him but he can carry you without problem.
If you are too tall, look at pictures of yourself on him. Is your leg crowded? Does your leg hang below his barrel? How tall are you and how tall is he?
Answer by ~$Quarterhorsesrock$~Do you feel to big for this pony? You are probably fine many people underestimate the power and strength or horses and ponies. I would say if this pony is not really old (like over 16 or around that age) and he is in good condition then you are fine.Answer by emily

and you are too big or heavy if your horse makes faces when you ride and balks a lot.
Answer by deliamoon35Are your feet hanging off him yet? Or close to it? then yes, too big. It’s okay, though. Just part of riding horses.Answer by Natural Horsemanship

you should be about 10 to 13 percent of his body weight. your heels should not hang below his barrel when you have your stirrups, and you should be able to post the trot comfortably. in my opinion, the withers should come to between your collarbone to your nose. I’m six feet tall, and i fit horses of about 17 hands and up– but i’m mostly leg, so i need somewhere to fit all that leg. if a rider was long-waisted but still fairly tall, she might do with a shorter, slightly stockier horse, because her leg should fill the horse’s side well, and he should be able to carry her weight well.
