Train A and train B are 450 miles apart. They each leave the station headed towards each other on different tracks. Train A travels 65 mph and trrain B at 55 mph. In how many hours will they pass each other??

Relative speed = (65+55)mph = 120mph
Time to meet = Distance/Speed = 450/120 = 15/4 = 3.75hr
= 3hr 45min

No. of hours (x):
x(65 + 55) = 450
120x = 450
x = 3.75
Answer: 3.75 hrs or 3 hrs & 45 min
Proof (distance traveled together is 450 mi):
= 3.75 hr(65 mph) + 3.75 hr(55 mph)
= 243.75 mi + 206.25 mi
= 450 mi
look they are moving in the opposite directions so v(rel)= 65-(-55)=120 and hence time = 450/120=3.75….
