diperdandey: How do I upload MiniDVs onto my computer if I don’t have software from my camcorder?
I recently got a video editing program, partly to upload my MiniDVs. However, when I hook up my camcorder and computer, it goes through the “Found New Hardware…” How do I put my MiniDVs onto the computer without the camcorder’s software (I don’t even know if it came with software)?

you need a firewire cable. connect the firewire cable to your camera and to the corresponding port on your computer then open the video editing program then your computer will prompt you about the rest.
Need more info…what video editing program? There should be an import or log video menu feature.
If not try googling your camcorder, you might be able to download software or drivers that might help.

You’re wrong, fisti is right.
You can u/l miniDV without software.
You must never have done any digital video production.
I was able to u/l my tape to Final Cut Pro, using just Final Cut pro. There was no software for the camcorder needed!
Next time, make sure you know something before you post. AND post something useful! How does your post help the Original poster? It doesn’t!

It’s a hardware problem (firewire),
If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don’t come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.
The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.
