My younger brother has an Acer with Windows Vista that constantly goes back to the settings it had when we purchased it. He sets a different desktop background, updates to Internet Explorer 8, installs iTunes, and he installs Skype and MSN. But when he is prompted to reboot, he does and it all goes back to the settings it came with. How do I stop it from doing this?

Multiple ways of doing this…

Password protect Setup and/or Admin in the BIOS.

Make him boot from a Linux live CD and tell him to use that to surf the web or stop using the laptop all together. Goto https://www.linspire.com/ is a decent distribution

Ideally… just keep him away from it if he can’t behave himself on it.
