dancingpuppy: How do I socialize a new cat with an old dog?
I’m fostering an adult cat in my house but I also have an adult dog. I know the adult dog doesn’t get along well with other (usually male) dogs, but he’s never been around a cat before. I want the adult dog and adult cat to get to know each other, but I don’t want them to kill each other. The adult cat is pretty tame. I led my leashed dog to him and the adult cat didn’t mind–or when he did mind, he hissed. How do I get them to get used to each other?

just leave them, nature will take it’s place they will either get along or won’t, my old dog and kitten were enemies at first but are now used to one another. It takes time.
You’re on the right track. Just keep your dog under control and keep introducing him to the cat. The cat will train HIM so to speak by hissing, scratching etc.
Our 2 cats trained our dog a couple years ago and now all 3 live in the same house with no problems.
Good luck
Answer by GarfieldRox101dont put the dog to close to the cat but put the cat in like a box or something and have the dog slowly walk towards the cat and stiff the cat to show that its alright. also u could try to put the cat in a cage with the dog and seperate the dog and cat but make it possible for them to see eachother.
