anayra87: How do I help my kitten cover his waste in the litter box?
My 9 week old kitten seems to be getting the hang of using the litterbox. However, he seems to have a lot of trouble covering his feces after he uses the box. He will kick and kick at the litter, but never in the right direction. I end up just covering it for him, to keep him from stepping in it. For those of you who have had kittens, is there anything I can do to help? I have moved his paws in the litter and moved the litter myself. Does it just take time for him to get his aim right when kicking the litter?

Make him smell his feces. He will get the hang of it quick, & learn to sniff around to make sure it is covered.
yea, its just one of those things, he will get it right soon enough..bless.Answer by solo_powered_boatie
Use a little spoon.Answer by trickster_19
Take his paw gently encourage him to scoop with it.
Also consider that if the litter box is dirty he will be less inclined to cover his waste.
Answer by shiloh hThe same thing happened to my two kitties. They got litter everywhere. 9 weeks is still young for a kitty. They are still learning. With my cats it just came natural after a few weeks. They just have to adjust to it and it will work.Answer by Andrea C
Actually partially to fully cover it yourself. The kitty will learn this is what is supposed to happen. You might have to repeat this a few times before he catches on completely.
Lots of luck!

P.S. It is much harder for us to litter train cats than the mom cat because they naturally learn from their mom where to use the bathroom. If it is in a litter box they see their mom cover it.
