All you can do is ask, if he says no, then forget about it.

Can you afford vet care on top of all the everyday expenses? I know you say that you will pay for the dog, but vet costs are one of the huge worries that parents think of when childern ask for pets.
Basically just sit down with your dad and ask him and show him you are willing to take care and pay for the dog. Maybe even talk about purchasing pet insurance or starting a savings account for vet bills. If he says no then there’s not much you can do but at least you tried 🙂Answer by Catherine F
Ultimately, it will be your parents who are financially responsible at some point in the dog’s life, so you should respect your father’s statement that he can’t afford the dog.
However, if you wish to plead your case, this is what I would do:
1. If you don’t already have a job (not an allowance, but some other way to earn money), get one. If you’re underage, look into paper routes, babysitting, etc. You need to prove to your dad that you have a reliable income.
2. stockpile a “dog” account — begin saving money so that you can demonstrate that you can pay for vet visits, food, toys, leashes, etc.
3. call around to local vets to find out which would be affordable on your budget. Also, look at local pet stores and collect prices on dog food, toys, leashes, poopie bags, treats, etc.
4. Create a budget. List what you anticipate spending on the dog’s food, etc. Also, be sure to show that you have some money aside for emergency vet care. (another option is to budget in pet insurance — rates for various companies can be found online)
5. Put yourself on a schedule — allot time each day to play with and/or walk the dog. This should involve a morning walk each day, so start getting up (by yourself, not with your parents’ help) earlier each day to ensure you will be up in time to feed and walk your dog.
6. Plan for vacations – figure out what you would do with the dog if/when you were out of town and/or when you head off to college and/or to live on your own. Depending upon the dog’s size and breed, it could live 18 years or longer — what accomodations are you willing to make in that length of time?
I think if you really think this through, and put it all down on paper for your parents, you’ll have a much better chance of convincing your dad that you’ve thought this through and getting a dog is a good decision for you.
Answer by smurfYou didn’t say how old you are but if you live in dad’s house, than go by dad’s rules. there is more to dog ownership than getting the dog. There’s licensing fees, shots, vet bills (yearly checksup and emergency), obedience training, food, toys, etc. Your dad probably understands the costs associated with the dog so if he can’t afford, than no dog. Plus unless you can get yourself and a sick dog to the bet who would you expect would transport you and the dog there? Would you be able to afford to board your dog when your on vacation??
As long as dad realized your family budget doesn’t allow for a dog, than wait until you grow up, move out and have your own money and place..than get a dog.
Answer by babygirl9932007first you should ask your dad if he thinks your pretty responsible then ask him if he thinks your responsible enough to ever own a dog then tell him everything you know about taking care of a dog then pop the question it usually works oh and you could take your dog to a local kennel when your on vacation.
