Anonymous: How do I get back at this scammer?
Earlier this week I got an email regarding a craigslist post I put up. The person wanted to buy my iPod and have it shipped to Africa. I know it’s BS and I know they’re trying to scam me. I already got the fake invoice from fake paypal. So now what do I do? I could just say “You’re a scam artist, see ya”. Or I could really take advantage of this situation.

There is nothing you can do but ignore it. The person is probably not in the country and sends out thousands or scam letters. They would just ignore anything you send to them.

Answer by annaBy communicating with the scammer you confirm that your adress etc is valid and prolong the spamscam. If there’s a way to report them to Craigslist do that.
It’s good to have a “disposable” email adress for things like that so if you get hassled you can close the account and move on with no harm done.Answer by queen of answers ♫
I dont see any way you can take advantage of the situation.
Most likely everything they have given you is secretly disguised/protected. They most likely are Nigerian Scammers
Its not like you can call the FBI.
They must contact everyone that sells a phone on Craigslist and Ebay.
Lots of people post on Y!A asking ” is this a scam”. Usually its the daughter birthday present. Maybe you could suggest to Craigslist that there be a warning to all phone sellers.. READ THIS before you post your ad. Its incredible how many people fall for this and Lotteries… If they didnt ..they would stop doing it. Instead, its on the increase, and other people are doing it besides NigeriansAnswer by Kittysue
IF your email does not contain your real name (something like [email protected]) and you don’t care if you get spammed and sent tons of viruses/malware and have your Contact list compromised, you can scambait them — but ONLY if you know exactly what you are doing — routing your emails through a proxy server, using a new email account that has nobody in the Contact list, using a Mac so you have less chance of getting a virus/malware/trojan and even then having a good anti-virus/malware program, you never give your real name or address, etc, then have fun
Read all of this before you start any sort of scambaiting

The read the forums on both sites to see what other people have done in similar situations. You can send a box with a picture of an iPod in it. You can send a brick (but that’s going to cost a lot of money).
And don’t tell them they are a scam artist – they already know that and will just laugh. If you want to say anything back, remember most West African scammers are VERY superstitious. Tell them you put a curse on them and their family, that you curse their penis so they will never be able to father children, that you will curse his sisters so they will have no children, that you have very powerful juju and they don’t know what a mistake they made by trying to scam you but in the next 10 days they are going to find out what sort of power you have. Anything like this will totallly freak them out
Answer by Buffy StaffordshireYes, you can “take advantage of that situation”. There are websites devoted to “scambaiting” which is the hobby of wasting a scammer’s time safely and legally. If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, ask questions and learn all about that hobby.
