Noele: How do I connect my laptop to the internet here at my house?
My laptop has wifi but Im only picking a couple locked networks from neighbors. I’ve been told that I don’t have wireless internet here at the house so my laptop wont pick it up. I use an embarq router. Is there anyway i can get my laptop to connect to the embarq network here at my house?

You need to have several things:
1. Internet subscription through you local provider
2. Router set up correctly (usually found on CD that came with the router)
3. WIFI enabled computer
a. If you have a wifi(or wireless card) in your laptop then your Router Set Up CD should walk you through the necessary steps.
Yes, All you have to do is plug an Ethernet cable into your router then you plug the other end into what looks like a big phone socket on your laptop.Answer by Zach
Does your laptop come with WIFI? that should automatically search for signals in your household or near area to connect to the internet. Or you can buy a portable wifi device that you can connect to your laptop that you must purchase separately.
Once you have a wifi connection you will also need a router connected to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) via a cable jack installed in your wall. Once the router is set up and you are sure you have an internet signal, the router should then connect to the internet. Thus bringing internet to your laptop.
