Talia Morgan: How do i build a dance floor for an outdoor wedding?
I am getting married in Sept 2011 in my father’s backyard. The dance floor will be on grass. We are on a super tight budget, but are handy and resourceful. I can’t help but think there would be some way to use skids to raise the boards and plywood or MDF, but I am terrified of possible appearance issues. We are having a small wedding (60 guests), so it doesn’t need to be huge, but I really want the first dance as a couple and the Father/Daughter, Mother/Son dances! Help!

Do you know how they have plastic mats to put on carpet under rolling computer chairs?
What about gettin a bunch of those? You could keep them how they are or spray paint them with a paint for plastics, maybe put your initials on it if you want.
I’m not sure if it would work, you would have to look at them and decide for yourself, but its just an idea that popped into my mind.
Call around first to a party supply store and ask about rental.Answer by mstrcarp44
the grade of plywood will determine the cost issue, you could use OSB from the big box stores, and a 1 x 4 grid to screw them to, keep extending the 1 x 4’s so it is fastened continuously, this would be stable enough to place directly on the ground, if you have leveling issues try placing some sand beneath, if appearance is an issue you could buy some inexpensive porch paint, or solid color stain, and give it a coat.Answer by Karen L
Look at renting one. Unless you have a second use for whatever materials you have to buy, it will be cheaper to rent than to buy all the material, and the rental place will set it up for you. Party rental places are the ones to call.
