paladin: How do I “avoid the office psychopath, while being professional and polite ?”?
“Does an office psychopath typically meddle, disregard existing mitigation plans, then come in as a hero …?… to “rescue” a failing project. If project is failing it is only because of the office psychopath’s involvement. The office psychopath’s concept of “rescue” bears no relation to the project’s original mitigation plans.”
“That’s how the really good psychopaths make it to the top. Notice how many of them are at the top. The good news is there are also good-guys at the top. Work with them as much as possible and let them see how good you are and do your best to avoid the office psychopath, while being professional and polite. Office psychopaths can be dangerous and since they practice their evil constantly the first mistake the well-meaning person makes is to tangle with them.Think of this credo and follow it. I found it in a book, the source was anonymous:”Knows but doesn’t know he knows, asleep; wake him up.Knows he doesn’t know, teach him; good man.Doesn’t know he doesn’t know, a fool, avoid him.Knows he knows, wise, follow him.”The office psychopath doesn’t know he doesn’t know. What separates him from the fool is that he tricks people into believing he’s the expert – and they promote him! Source(s):Horrible experience”

I think YOU are the offie psychopath. If you wish to avoid yourself, don’t look in the mirror.

You cannot avoid the office psychopath. But, you can stop him/her in their tracks by setting boundaries in front of several of your coworkers. Once he/she crosses over those boundaries, you have several witnesses to substantiate your position. Be just as much as a psycho as the office psycho is to you.
