Crazy Mind: How do AP exams help in US college admissions?
If I as an international applicant (india) give the AP exams in this May 2011, will it have any significant impact on my college decisions? How will giving the exams help? I am considering all the universities from top to bottom and how is a gap year looked upon by the admission officers?
I can’t take any AP classes since there are no schools around that offer them. I will be studying on my own.

The AP classes look very good and some schools don’t even look at students who haven’t taken them. The exams help only if you got good scores 3’s, 4’s or 5’s. Doing well in the actual class probably has more impact than the tests themselves, those are more for credit. A gap in your year as in having no classes is frowned upon but if your grades are good then you should be fine. Good Luck!
AP exams really help your application if you do well, but if your school doesn’t offer them, they obviously don’t expect you to take them. You can study the content yourself and take the AP test, and if you do well, that will really help you. However, its not going to hurt you to not do AP since your school doesn’t offer it.
And gap years are alright as long as you do something meaningful during that time.
