How come criminals who are kidnappers target people’s fiancee sometimes to use as ransom ?

Andrew: How come criminals who are kidnappers target people’s fiancee sometimes to use as ransom ?
I don’t get why criminal do this sometimes to get money by holding someone’s fiancee as hostage. I mean how would they felt if someone hold their fiancee as hostage. I’m just curious why criminals think they can harm people like this.
