Most atheists in America were Christians. Remind me what the punishment of apostacy is in Islam…that’s why few atheist know much about Islam.
The only apostate I can think of in Islam in Aayan Hirsi Ali and if she ever goes back to the Islamic would, they would kill her. She had to flee from Africa and is now living under constant protection.

I myself am not, but i do not ask the questions i just answer with my own viewpoint on matters. I know the basics of the Christian Religion and the Western Religions basically all the variants of Catholicism, Christianity etc. I know very little about Judaism and little about Islam so i choose not to ask about or have an opinion of things i do not understand on at least a basic level. The more in depth my knowledge, the deeper my opinionAnswer by The Eye of Omen
Well actually I know allot about Islam, more than I would like, as my girlfriend is muslim.
We all know you like to stay in your little fundamentalist majority Ramadan section, if you want to be engaged by more atheists come on out to the R&S battlefield.
Answer by CityguyBecause Islam is an offshoot of Christianity and much of what is in Islam was copied from Christianity
Debunk christianity, debunk islam.
Answer by fraggle_uk_ukMost atheists live in countries where christianity is the most dominant religion and have therefore had more exposure to christianity.
Why is that? Ask yourself what the penalty for apostasy is in Islam.
Answer by Torg T. RobotPersonally, I’m trying to stay on track with keeping Christianity from being forced on everyone’s lives. If Islam takes over, I’ll go after them next.
In any case, Muslims in the U.S. have enough problems as it is. An Islamic restaurant near our house got burned down after the 9/11 attacks so American Patriots don’t need any more encouragement.

Personally, I am more familiar with Christianity than Islam (not that I consider myself ignorant of the latter anymore), because I used to be a Christian.
Generally, there are more ex-Christians among atheists than there are ex-Muslims, because being an ex-Christian is not punishable by death according to (some) Christians, while being an ex-Muslim is according to (some) Muslims. And there are plenty of countries in the world where leaving Islam will lead to that sentence being carried out by the government.
Answer by Denny CraneDon’t say that “I am ignorant about Islam”, I am not, I am uneducated on Islam! Major difference!
Most of the questions are for Christians because the fued lies mostely between atheism and Christianity!
I am so uneducated on Islam because I only learned what little I did from 2 Muslims at a Greyhound station in Denver, CO, I learned that what I was tuaght in my punlic schools are wrong. I also haven’t taken the time to study Islamic philosophies yet.

I live in the Deep South and I was raised Southern Baptist.
That’s why.
Answer by ChemburleeBecause I live in an area where Southern Baptism is literally 3 out of every 5 churches. I’ve never seen a real mosque in my life and do not personally know any Muslims. Everything I know about Islam comes from a public school education which we were not allowed to go into detail less it become “World Religion”, not “World History”. I only know what I know about religion from my many Christian (of various sects) friends, Catholic Grandmother, and one Jewish Friend (even though we don’t really talk about religion that much).
Essentially, Christianity is the dominant religion, therefore its propaganda is everywhere. The others lie in hiding.
Answer by Pedestal 42This is a board in English, for one thing.
Most English speakers will have far more exposure to, and encounters with, Christianity.
So you would expect to find more Christians here, and more atheists with experience and knowledge of Christianity: no big surprise.
But I know enough about Islam to know I am not going to convert to it: rather I think I have very good grounds for considering it one more human-created religion.
The origins of Koranic passages in late apocryphal Christian gospels is quite clear to anyone familiar with such.
And while Christians have regularly told me I am hell-bound (in a variety of tones), only someone professing Islam has told me, to my face (not on-line) that my beliefs merit the death penalty here and now.
Answer by Dr. PrunesquallorI don’t read Arabic, or speak it. I do read and speak English.
I was raised as a Christian. I have read much but not all of the Bible. Therefore I know something of the Bible. I was not raised as a Muslim. I have read about five pages of the Koran in English translation. Therefore I know very little of the Koran.
Unlike some people on these pages, I don’t comment much about things I don’t know about. This is basic intellectual honesty.
Answer by MDKMuslims are in a circle jerk with Christians & atheists and feel left out and get no satisfaction because both of there hands were cut off for stealing. All three arguments are equally F.U.B.A.R.Answer by Catticus
My mother is an atheist and not ignorant towards islam, infact she is often telling my father off for not ever teaching her arabic so she can read more about it (my mother loves reading about different religions she finds it all very interesting) but she often talks to her friends who are islam about their beliefs.
not all athiests are ignorant.
Answer by BallaurenaPersonally I find that most atheists don’t know the Bible, they only know what popular media suggests is in the Bible. Maybe you should be glad the media hasn’t poisoned them against Islam by a bunch of misrepresentations.
