line: How can you tell the difference between loving the affection someone gives you to loving the actual person?
For example, if you’re favourite attributes about someone are how caring they are, loving they are toward you, those are examples of their affection you prefer over something about them!
Help me understand where the distinction is

The distinction is about the other attributes that person has.
Say, they are affectionate towards you and they are a generally lovable person. That’s only one trait of them. What other attributes do they have? Are you interested into the same things they are interested in? Do you have similar philosophies in life? Do you know them well enough to be really able to tell that you like them that much? What about if they got less affectionate over time, would you still love them just the same?
And THE killing question ( 😉 ) : If they didn’t like you at all, would you still love them?
