YAZ: How can i tell if my puppy will stay small?
I was wondering, how can i tell if my puppy will stay small? I read in a dog book, that by looking at the puppies feet. If the feet are small then the puppy will stay small.

The whole looking at the feet thing is very correct. Though every dog matures at different times, little dogs will grow faster than the big ones. It all depends on the dog itself.

Well, that is the general rule… Looking at a pup’s paws can usually tell you how big they’ll get but this isn’t always the case. All of it depends on breed and if they’re a mix, which part is dominant. A good example of a breed where the paw rule doesn’t work is a Courgi. They have fairly decently sized paws (really wide and what would be considered large) but the breed is naturally short with stubby legs. The best I can offer, especially if your pet is a mixed breed, is to ask your vet their opinion and they should be able to give you a general idea of how large your canine is going to get. what is the breed? and did you see the parents? most will be like the parents. once in a blue moon a pup will take after someone way back in the line…being bigger or smaller than the parents…i breed danes and i noticed once a pup had huge feet …bigger than the rest… i kept in touch to see if indeed he got bigger…he turned out to be the smallest in the litter ! better to go by the parents if you can.

the feet. If they are in proportion to the body the dog will be small.. If the feet are huge on the body.. they will be big

That’s true. I learned that the hard way…my family and I picked out a dog that we thought was adorable and it was pretty small, but his feet were huge. Now he comes up to my chest.

Well, def paws and also, when they are 7 months old, they are about half of the size they will be when they are full grown.

if you look at the paw an it big then it will be come big if it’s small it’s a small dog you only do that to mix dogs cos you dont know how big it will become you dont have to do that to non mix dog cos you know how big it is all ready

That is correct. Puppy feet can tell you how big they are going to get and not to mention they are sooooo cute! 🙂
