How can I install a scanner to my computer without the CD-ROM?

Jazzazul: How can I install a scanner to my computer without the CD-ROM?
My friend gave me an all in one Dell scanner, but couldn’t find the cd. My computer reads it as “Dell A920” and my Hardware Update Wizard says it “Cannot find necessary hardware” to install it. Is there a place in the internet where I could find a free software downloand to install it? I need to scan important papers and be able to e-mail them. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Go to Dell on the net and download the drivers to run it there.

if it is a new computer you may just be able to plug it in and the computer should detect new hardware. There may be a little bubble in the lower right hand corner of the screen that pops up. If so, then click on that and follow the instructions. Good luck!

You can go to Dells website and download the drivers for that model scanner. Then all you have to do is install them.

This is the way it is for all components either inside or connected to the outside of a computer.

Yes you need to first, before plugging in yoru scanner, download the drivers. Which is the software that will run your scanner.

You need to do a search on the internet for your scanner drivers.

Let’s say your scanner is a dell a920 you would type in
a920 drivers

For example this is one of the sites that came up when I did a search on google.com

Now what you do is download it, and then install it. Then when you plug your scanner in it will work.

Open the find new hardware balloon and then click: browse the internet for necessary software .
this isn’t The same sentence but it is about to find the necessary software on internet.

Go to the Dell website and the support area. Enter the model number (A920) and it will take you to where you can download the drivers and other software for free.

You’re going to have to have the drivers to get this scanner to run. You don’t say what your operating system is, so I’m going to guess Windows XP. You would have to have new drivers even if you had the CD, so go to Driverguide.com. It’s free to join, and they have the driver you need.
