Manda: How can I get my pony to respect a jump?
My pony and i have been jumping for a month now. I invite my friend over so we can practice together. But her pony will not jump no matter what. My pony used to jump, but now he just plows through all the jumps and doesn’t care. It would be great if I could find a way to get the ponies to jump again and respect jumps.
Thanks to anyone who answers!

Had this problem years ago when I owned several horses. Walk the horse up the jump and let him/her hang their head over the rail. Then they will jump.
do you doo gymnastic with him? bounces, in and outs, 1 strides etc? if you have been just jumping jumping jumping your horse is bound to get bored. also, if your jumping verticles only…dont, jump X’s so he picks his knees up a little. do stufff to make him ay attention. put some “scary” stuff in front of it etc. and get a trainer. you have no business jumping w/o a trainer. get a trainer so you can do gymnastcs and teach your pony how to jump properly.Answer by ~!~localstorm~!~

You need a trainer. You’ve been jumping for a month, and your pony has started running through the jumps? Are they proper jumps – not a broomstick balanced on some milk crates? Do you understand the concept of placement? Can you place a jump? Is your position correct – sitting up to the base of the jump, then closing your hip angle over the fence? Are your hands quiet and not hanging on the ponies mouth?
It sounds like what has happened is you and your friend have taken a couple of ponies who were trained to (or at least willing to) jump, and you’ve untrained them. Please please please get a trainer to help you!
