Melissa: How can I file for child support if the father lives in a different state?
My son will be a year old and I am no longer with the father. I would like to file for child support, but I am unsure of the process. He has never paid or done anything for our son, in a year. We now live in a different state due to money issues and the father still lives back where he was born. Do I have to file in the state my son was born or do I file where I currently live?

You have to prove that you live in a different state. You can file in where you are currently located but it will be tuff in away. A lot of run arounds.
I hired a good lawyer and he did all the work.
Answer by CiticopYou file where you live.
But court ordered support may also mean court ordered visitation rights for Dad…
Answer by ChrisYou will file where you currently live and then the state where you live will file what’s called a UIFSA petition with the state where your ex lives to set an order of support and enforce that order of support. It will take several months so don’t delay.Answer by George McCasland
It has to be filed in his state as your state does not have long arm jurisdiction. If you file there it would only delay the whole process.
