OhHeyThere!: How are children affected by being born to teen parents?
I have to write a paper on teen pregnancy for my child development class.
One of the questions is to explain how the children of teen parents are affected.
I’ve checked google and my library databases but can’t find anything.
The paper is due tomorrow so please help me.
Thanks! 🙂
I need negative effects to show how the teen pregnancy rate needs to decrease!

The only negative effect is they’re more likely to grow up to be Democrat voters.
I don’t have any sources to back it up, but here’s my opinion:
Most teens who have kids are still kids themselves. Thus, they don’t really know how to be a parent. They may do fine with nourishing and clothing a baby, but with actual parenting they fall short. They try to hard to be liked and be a friend rather than a parent, so their children don’t get the discipline they need.
That’s not to say that all non-teen parents are perfect, but I think it does get better as you get older.

The result of this situation is that the child or children of these teenage parents generally exhibit lower cognitive development compared to their peers. These children have the tendency to become underachievers academically and are more likely to become school drop outs, too. Teen parenting statistics also point out that these kids start to engage in sex earlier than most of their peers and have a higher tendency to repeat their parent’s past and become teenage parents also.

The children of teenage mothers have lower birth weights, are more likely to perform poorly in school, and are at greater risk of abuse and neglect.
The sons of teen mothers are 13 percent more likely to end up in prison while teen daughters are 22 percent more likely to become teen mothers themselves.

The children born to the youngest teen mothers are at greater risk of being an
“indicated case” of child abuse or neglect (and being placed in foster care)
than are those born to older mothers. Children born to mothers age 15 and
younger are two times more likely to become an indicated case of child
abuse/neglect in the first five years of their lives than are the children born to
mothers ages 20-21.
I had my son at 18! Im 20 now and the negative effects would be…being busy trying to continue higher education and not being around. Not giving him the time of day because of homework. Working on top of going t school! Little time with them, not enough to offer during their early years. I live with my parents because i cant afford an apartment of my own.
