Kanna: Help with getting my computer to rescognise things plugged into the usb socket?
It keeps telling me I need a hardware update. Even if it’s my ipod. USB pens dont work either. I just get this notification from microsoft that the “new hardware” needs something installed. Which is complete rubbish in most cases. And when I exit the thing plugged into the usb isnt recognised in my computer. what is going on?

Try other USB ports. Sometimes these are a problem.
Which operating system are you using?
USB devices do not necessarily have drivers already on the operating system, especially more recent standards amendments such as USB2.x, OTG etc which usually require updates. Every single piece of hardware needs a driver, so don’t dismiss that the driver isn’t actually there or has become corrupt.
Windows XP doesn’t come with anything beyond USB 1.1 support until you install updates.
Answer by xxkittyxxSounds like you’re usb is misconfigured, or you need something updated. Go to Microsoft for updates and see first if this helps.
Is it a usb hub? Then try connecting it to another port. Usb ports and hubs are fickle creatures.
