anna: having “no money” in your credit card?
my friend owes me a debt, and we agreed that he’d pay it off by buying me something that was of the same amount of money as he’d borrowed off me initially,
but he is now saying that he can’t because he has “no money in his credit card”
i thought credit cards were for PAYING BACK money, not for spending prepaid credit?
can anyone shed a little light on this?
his card is a “credit/debit mastercard”

evidentally is lying or he has no money in his account to cover the cost
This could mean one of three things.
1. He has a “pre paid” credit card. This is more like a debit card that money has to be added to before it can be spent.
2. He is at his credit limit and the card will be declined if he tries to use it. He needs to pay off the card.
3. He’s making an excuse to keep from paying you back.
Answer by rtfmOK, so then what he really has is a debit card, tied to his checking account. He’s claiming he has no money in his checking account.
Does he work? If so, catch him on the day after payday. (Oh, and if he has the money in his account, he can get the cash for you from the ATM just as easily as he could purchase something for you.)
Answer by LouiseWhat he probably means is that he has reached his credit limit. i.e. his bank has said he is only allowed to spend £2000 on his card, and he is already at that point.
If he has a debit card, then it’s just a card linked to his bank account, but I don’t think Mastercard do them and it is probably a normal credit card.
Be careful. If he is at his credit limit, he will probably only pay back the minimum amount each month, and then all the available money will be taken up with the interest that the company adds. He is in a spiral of debt, and it may be a very long time until you see your money again. Agree something sensible, like £5 a week, until you have been paid back or he can put the rest of what he owes on his card. That’s not very useful if you lent him £1000, but a start. And don’t lend him anything else until you have been fully repaid for this loan.
Answer by Not IPeople with lousy credit cannot get a regular credit card but instead receive a secure credit card. Meaning they pay the credit card company first. More like a debit card.Answer by AMK000
