Janice: Applying for a credit card that asks for “good credit”?
According to charts in general I am listed as having “a fair credit score”
creditcards.com says that the cards that I already own from my bank say I need “good credit”.
As of today, I need Amex to shop in Costco and of course Costco offers their own card/amex combo ..but on creditcards.com it says good credit needed. My other choice is an amex logo with my bank which is also listed as needing good credit from that creditcards.com site…
Since my bank knows me already, will I more likely be accepted by them..or is Costco pretty easy going?
p.s . I pay each month in full..so I am fine with my bank etc..
and please folks…I am not interested in having my new card for consolidation reasons, so no links…(had to delete a 1 answer question earlier) .even after stating I was in good standing!
I know my credit report is fair. I would prefer the Costco Card – but I don’t want to be turned down.

We are just giving you answers that we feel fits your situation, no need in deleting answer, what are you afraid of? There may be all kinds of answers to a problem.
If you pay on time, and in full every month, then you should have better than good credit, and will be alright to apply for whatever credit card you want. Credit card companys are looking for how many credit cards you already have/debt ratio, how you pay your bill, how much you make etc.
If your bank offers a card that is part of the Amex system, then by all means try them first. But maybe you should check your credit report first, and make sure there is nothing derogatory on there, then you can see exactly where you are, as far as where your credit standing is.
Good luck……………………..
Answer by Koki MHi,
I am also a Costco customer and at first the Amex only requirement was a bit annoying…
My wife and I did a lot of research and we applied and got approved for a Starwood Amex. Costco accepts it and we can add miles or hotel points on that card. Our credit was not that great…
Maybe you don’t need miles or hotel points. That’s fine. Amex has a huge list of cards and at least one of them should have offers, promos and perks that you can take advantage of…
I believe you should get an easy approval from your bank and if you wish to read more on specific Amex cards and see what other people have to say…
Here is a list of user reviews
and a list of available perks Amex has to offer
Good luck!
