For a new tattoo is it okay to put a piece of cloth between the tattoo and your clothing?

ForeverFictionUnbound: For a new tattoo is it okay to put a piece of cloth between the tattoo and your clothing?
Or anything like that? Such as between your tattoo and jeans or a bra strap? I know it would be best not to, but if it is necessary is there any way to protect the tattoo from being rubbed wrong?
Not necessarily for a long period of time.

No the tattoo needs air, try to avoid covering it with any material for the first week.

Yes, you will be fine. One of my tattoos runs down over my waist line. It was almost impossible to wear my pants, so I put a piece of paper towel over it while working so I could keep my pants on. That tattoo never suffered any problems….

I didn’t take any precautions like that when the tattoo on my hip was healing. You definitely should wash it regularly and be more cautious of it getting irritated, but I doubt that there is anything to be too concerned about. Though if you’re concerned, you should ask your artist for their recommendation on how to manage the healing process.

The best way to look after a new tattoo is,
1. Wash with warm(not hot) water and a mild soap, pat dry do not rub, do this at least 4 times a day.
2. Use a small amount of Bepanthane cream ( it is a nappy rash cream and outstanding) people will tell you to use all sorts of crap don`t.
3. Wear loose fitting clothes for a few days.
4.DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH.

The tattoo shouldn’t be covered.. It should be open to air, it needs to breathe.
I use Rocco’s Old School Tattoo Balm on all of my old and new tattoo’s.
It works great. Heals my new tattoo’s nicely, keeps them moisturized and protected.
And still lets air pass through unlike Vaseline. Also makes my old tattoo’s look new

If you need to put a piece of cloth in between, coat it with some unscented, unmedicated lubriderm. putting dry cloth over a tattoo can cause the cloth to heal to the tattoo, and once you tear it off, it will take some of the ink with it. i fell asleep and my tattoos healed to my bed sheet, and when i pulled it off in the morning, it pulled off some of the scabbing which left blotches in the ink.
