Never too late. If you realy want to you certainly can. Make sure your are keeping up on your grades first of all. You will need to regidster with the ncaa Clearing house right away. Also go to the FAFTA website and apply on Jan 1. The more financial aid you can get the better. Also, www.sportsworx.com can help with the whole process. They place over 85% of the athletes they enroll.Answer by youmustfoldaces

There is no substitute for two things when it comes to playing or trying out for competitive sports and those two things are:
1) Heart/Desire
2) Raw Talent
Michael Jordan started playing basketball later in his youth and when he tried out for his high school basketball team as a Junior, he was cut from the varsity during tryouts. That was his first time around with tryouts for a competitive team.
Jordan made the varsity as a senior. It was his heart/desire his that made him stick with basketball and play on the JV team thru his junior year and, it was his heart/desire that made him come back to tryout again as a senior. Of course, it was Jordan’s raw talent, that made him an awesome player, but it was Jordan’s desire to play, his desire to compete & his desire to learn, that carried Jordan to Super-Stardom!
I started my response this way because no matter what happens during the tryout, you have to have the right frame of mind, well before you get to the tryout. You have to really want to make the Varsity and you have to want it so bad that you are going to do whatever is neccesary to make the team.
Talk to the Varsity coach and tell him that you plan to tryout for the team. Ask the coach to give you a schedule and plan, detailing the weightlifting and the aerobic related training that you should be following. You need to be physically ready to play football by the end of this next July… With no prior experience playing at the high school level, being in top physical form, may be what helps you make the team.
You asked if it will be hard to play or tryout for football… The answer is YES!!! It is a physically demanding sport but it is a sport that totally relies on teamwork. If you cant pull your weight, in whatever position you are going to play, you will be letting down the other members of the team… which is why, you need to be willing and absolutely ready to do anything you are asked to do, then go and do the absolute best that you can do for the team.
The coaches may yell and scream but they are trying to get you all to work as a team. Just watch and listen closely as you go through the tryouts and do exactly as the coaches tell you to do. The heat of the late summer is going to be difficult to work out in, but this is where your physical conditioning as well as your heart/desire, carries you through all of that.
Without personally seeing you and/or knowing your natural athletic ability, no one can say whether or not, you will make the varsity team at high school, let alone a college team, over a year from now. That said- as I said before, while your raw talent will have alot to do with your ultimate success, it will be your prep work and your heart/desire, that will give you a far better chance of being successful!
Good Luck!
