Megan: Family moving to NE Tallahassee Florida needs advice: where are the best public schools and communities?
Where can my family rent a house or apartment in a great community and public school district? We must take into consideration commute to work in Bainbridge, willing to drive an hour max. Also, any info about groups and activities for stay at home mom of 1, 3 and 5 year old would be great!

If I had to pick the best area of Tallahassee for a family, I would hands down pick Killearn Lakes (or any of the neighborhoods located off or around Thomasville Rd). It is known as the “nice” or “family-friendly” part of town. It is still accessible to downtown and the heart of Tallahassee, but far enough away that you will not have to be inconveinienced by Tallahassee college life. The closer you get to FSU or downtown, the busier it will get, and the noisier it will get. Any apartment around the University (and within a 10 minute drive) will have a large number of college students. In which case you will hear a lot of noise at night, especially on the weekends.

I also recommend the Killearn area for schools…I used to live by the university, and the schools in the area were not very nice looking, and in neighborhoods that I would consider “not the safest”. Here’s the website to the local elementary school in Killearn –

When looking for a place to rent, I can suggest looking on https://tallahassee.craigslist.org – If it’s for rent in Tallahassee, it will probably end up on Craigslist 😉 Because the Killearn Lakes area is so nice, any apartment you choose would probably be a good choice. Most have a lovely exterior and interior, to attract the families, politicians, and well-to-do’s in Tallahassee. The only issue would be management, but that’s everywhere! And, it should be easy to find a house for rent there, because there are several neighborhoods in the area to choose from.

I can’t much help you with the school part since I am 24 without children. but i live in a place called blairstone at govenors square. Very nice neighborhood. Family friendly, great building and it is off the main road so it is quite and safe. One of the best apartment buildings in my opinion for a family.

Also there is an area called Lake Ella that is beautiful, we wanted to live there but could not find apartments that we liked
