ViRaS: External Hard Drive doesn’t “Auto-Play” anymore…?
External Hard Drive doesn’t “Auto-Play” anymore…
My 250 GB External hard drive used to work just fine last week… I would plug it in, flip the switch, and then the little “AutoPlay” window would pop up, process, and the hard-drive would work.
Now when I flip the switch, Windows detects the hard-drive, but it doesn’t show up under in “My Computer”. The little “Safely Remove Hardware” icon is there in my sys tray, indicating that my External HD is there, but it’s just not showing up in “My Computer”. It looks like the “Auto-Play” function stopped and I don’t know why.
Any help?

You can download “Tweak UI” freely from Microsoft website and then:
1.Open “My Computer” category.
2.Open “AutoPlay”
3.Go to “Types” and open it.You can select which external Drive can use Auto-Play. it would work.
Try to do this: Go to my computer, insert your HDD and hit F5, if that doesn’t work try to enter your hard disk’s drive letter in the path textbox (for example F:/). If that doesn’t work try disconnecting your HDD without ejecting it and insert it again. If that doesn’t work… try inserting it in another USB port.
Now, for the auto-play function, insert a cd (doesn’t matter what type of cd), then in my computer right clic it and go to Properties, then clic the “Auto-Play” tab, select a file type and select the option “Ask me what to do”. Do that for each file type.
Answer by larrybeveridgego to my computer and then to the external hdd and then to properties, then auto play tab. you have to apply all the tabs for audio, pics, ect, ect. you get the idea.
