i’m getting a dog. but i’m not sure what kind of dog i should get. what dog do you suggest i should get.

Go to your local animal shelter. Someone in there will melt your heart.

Many dogs are euthanized at animal shelters, you could be saving a life.

most of it depends on the room that you can offer it…..how active you want to be with him/her, what you like, if you like a small dog, one that you can cuddle, a daschund is good, or a german shepard for a watch dog and play, or a golden retriever, they chew a lot as puppies, more then others, what ever you get, make sure you give him/her all the love you can, you’ll get it back 100 times over.

I have a Chocolate Labrador .
They are so sweet .
They learn fast because they’re very smart.
They don’t bark unless it’s necessary , and that I like about them , because some neighbors don’t like dogs that bark the whole day .
If you can handle a big dog , you should get a Lab.

Golden labs and golden retrievers make wonderful pets, but if you’re looking for a smaller breed, I’ve always had a penchant for cocker spaniels, although they’re not known for being very good with kids.

Dalmatians, Dobermans, Pitbulls and a few other are also known for turning against their owner.

But you know, there’s surely some good hearted mutt at your local SPCA who would love you for ever for rescuing him from that hell.

Whatever you decide, consider going for obediance training, dogs can be very hard to handle. And if you’re going to have to leave it alone for any period of time, really think about getting a crate right away, so that he gets used to it, and your home doesn’t get destroyed.

Dogs are alot of work, but they also give back so much love.

Whatever you decide, just be gentle, you’ll never teach your dog anything by hitting it, except that his owner can hit him. Find other ways to get your point across, whatever that may be.

This is a hard question because you didn’t give enough information. If you live in a small place (apartment) you will need to get a small dog, if you live in a place with a nice yard and plenty of room, a large of medium dog is nice. Also, what is your lifestyle like, are you willing to do active things with an active dog, or is a cushion sitting dog more your cup of tea. I really like Scottish terriers because they are so smart, and loveable. They aren’t great for people with small children though. They don’t shed much, but you do have to have them groomed every 10 weeks unless you can do it. (you can just clip them with clippers, you don’t have to pluck them unless you show them.)
Papillons are really sweet but hyper.
One of the best things though is to go to your local pound and adopt a dog. Mixed breeds are wonderful, they are unique and full of love and don’t tend to have all the genetic problems a pure bred can have. Just evaluate your lifestyle and decide what would be best for you.

My family wants a portugeese waterdog as our next one. They’re not too big and not too small, we met this one and it was so sweet and had the softest fur. If you really have no breed you’re set on, go to the Humane Society and get one (that way, you’ll know that you saved the dog’s life) We got a really nice dog there who’s this golden retreiver/beagle/lab mix and he’s absolutely perfect. Not all dogs there are bad.

If you live in the city I’d recommend a small dog. Maybe one of the best reasons is that they outlive big dogs by 5 to 10 years if properly cared for. (not pampered and fed human snack food). Burglary experts say they are the best for security cuz they bark and are very alert. They are considered INDOOR dogs and big dogs are typically considered OUTDOOR WORK OR SPORTING DOGS. Less food and grooming and shhedding and you can get 2 for company while youre gone. 2 Big dogs is a bit much especially for the city. Oh yeah, they cant get in the garbage either. Shi Tzus are rated the #1 best family pet I heard somewhere. I have 2 large chis and a min poodle. Theyre great.

I suggest you really research dogs and learn about the different breeds.
You must ask yourself many questions…
Do I want a large, medium or small dog?
Do I want a puppy or a mature dog?
Do I have time to take my dog for daily walks?
Where will the dog stay while I’m at work and/or school?
How long will the dog have to stay in the house alone?
Do I have someone who will help me if I need a sitter?
Is it important to me that my dog gets along with other pets?
Do I want my dog to guard my home?
How much money do I want to spend?
And the final and most important question, Am I ready to love and take care of this animal for the rest of their life?

Once you research dog breeds and answer these questions, go to the SPCA and look there first. Keep in mind that it is proven that mixed breeds have fewer medical problems and can make great pets.

It’ll depend:

1. How’s your facility at home – how big is your room, how big is your garden, how is your neighbouhood, etc.
2. How much time do you have for your dog – to take care of his/her hair, pet/plating with, teach, etc.
3. The condition around your house, is there children, how many people live inside you’re house, how crowded is your neighbourhood, how much noisy is your neigbourhood, etc.
4. and your own taste, do you like long/short haired, straight/wired/any type of hair, big/medium/small sized, active/passive one, etc.

there’s to much to consider really…
But the best suggestion is to go to a pound/animal shelter and fell ion love to one and take him/her home…
