Do you have to be a good artist to be a tattoer?

KadidjaSkeffington: Do you have to be a good artist to be a tattoer?
I kinda asked this before, but I worded it wrongly. I really want to be a tattooer. Like picking up a needle and actually using ink to put a design on somebody. BUT…I’m not a good artist and I was wondering if I needed to be an artist to do so. I thought not, but a lot of tattooers just draw an image to begin with. Answers please?

yes you have to be good that’s why they are called tattoo artist

well with anything you will get better as you work at it

everyone starts some where

most tattoo artist start out drawing or painting and then they start tattooing

you have to draw to tattoo

yes you do because tattoing is an art, you have to be able to design anything from a butterfly to a person whether its cartoon or life like and you need to be able to ad extreme detail. it not like normal art, you can paint over it or erase because its skin with permanent ink something that cant be undone

Really?? You just asked this question?? Why in all the world would you think that if you want to be a tattoo ARTIST, that you don’t have to be a good ARTIST??

Tattooing is extremely difficult. You get one shot at it. No erasing! If you can’t draw, you WON’T be able to tattoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s just the way it is.
