: How long should the dancing at a wedding reception last?
We both come from very conservative religious families, and the majority of the weddings we have attended have had neither dancing nor alcohol. Our wedding will be very small with no alcohol, but there will be a dance. What is an appropriate length of time to plan for this portion of the celebration?
Most of the guests are family and strictly anti-alcohol, though not against other people choosing to drink at their own events; almost everyone on the guest list would be shocked by booze. Also, we are going the “itunes” rout for the dance music, and it will be held at a family property, so no DJ and no strict end time 🙂

As long as you want!! Usually halls will have a time they want you out. Mine is 1am. But most weddings I’ve gone to people start heading out around 11pm. You can just go with the flow, if people start leaving earlier, so be it. If the party is rocking and people aren’t leaving, then great! No need to put an end time to it, the hall will usually pick that for you. Just let the DJ know what time is the max time so he can announce it to get rid of any stragglers. But since there isn’t any alcohol it will probably end on the early side on it’s own.
I went to a dry wedding once and it was the craziest wedding I’ve ever been too. Everyone was wasted. We all snuck alcohol in. (Couple didn’t mind, we all knew they just couldn’t afford it)
Answer by overcomerDon’t set a time. Just go with the flow. You will know when it is time to stop. Congrats!Answer by peanut 2
How boring.
Just because you come from religious conservative families doesnt mean you HAVE to follow their ways.
A wedding is a time for celebration, so have some fun.
Most weddings after the toasts and speeches people mingle for a few hours.
Dancing usually starts around 9-2?
