rb: Could a best friend give away the bride if her father is deceased?
Would it be strange if the bride’s best male friend give her away at her wedding? He is closer to her than her brother and her her father is deceased. I don’t see it as weird, I personally think it is cute but am worried that some might let it bother them.

I feel this would be ok but the best choice is someone who is like a father to you.
Not at all! My dad passed away so I too had to choose an alternative. Just choose whomever you want. 🙂Answer by Gak
It’s your wedding do it the way you want. It would be wierd. If people have a problem with it it’s their problem. Have a good wedding – it’s yours!Answer by 2 B Mrs. D
I don’t see anything wrong with that. The bride can choose whoever she wants to walk her down the aisle. She will remember that moment far longer than anyone else and should choose who she wants to share that moment with.Answer by Shanti ..
I think that would be fine. I would make sure her brother understands though. My Mom had her younger brother give her away because her dad was dead and her older brother was really put out about it.Answer by Soon-to-Be Mrs. Taylor
As long as the bride talks to the brother to make sure that he doesn’t feel overlooked, it should be good. Especially since the bride isn’t that close to her brother, it would be appropriate to look for someone else. Also consider what role the brother would play, if he seems to want to be involved.Answer by Sue
Of course he can. Tradition says the father of the bride, but anyone else of your choosing can, even the father of the groom. Good luck and sorry your dad isn’t there for you on this great day in your life!Answer by warriorsca2001
My sister in law to be (my husband’s sister ) is about to marry and both parents are deceased, and she is having one of her 7 brothers give her away. Remmeber you are the one getting married and its your day, if he is closer to you then your brother do what will make you happy and don’t worry about whatevery one else things.
Congratulations

Answer by truefirsteditionAbsolutely. Anyone the bride chooses can escort her down the aisle (male or female), or she can walk by herself. Anyone who is bothered by it needs to get over themselves.Answer by Bindy S
They might. But it is your wedding, your choice. If you are close to your brother, then I would let him know how much you love him, but you would really like for……so n so …to give you away. No matter what you do someone is going to complain, therefore, you might as well do it the way you want to…you cannot stop the complaints anywayAnswer by seksiangel69
There’s absolutely no problem with that, just make sure your husband-to-be is ok with it 🙂Answer by hydez2002
most etiquette books say that the next closest male figure should give the bride away. but in today’s wedding bliss, anyone can give anyone away.
i’ve seen alot of people who have placed little ribbons on their gowns and suits that represent the deceased family member.
Do not feel the need to please everyone…it’ll never happen. This day is special to only the bride and groom. the people invited should feel special that they were included. I nearly made my best friend pull her hair out with all my “pleasing everyone.” and she gave me the advise of, “it’s all eyes on you. if you are happy, they’ll be happy. if not, oh well.”

When it comes to your wedding–you can do whatever you want. The person who walks you down the aisle should be someone you care about just as a father. best friend, that one person who means that much to you. If that is your best friend–GO FOR IT!! This is your day and you should have who you want. Don’t worry about other’s thought–it is your wedding day!! All you care about on that day is being happy!! If your bestfriend walking you down makes you happy–there is your answer!! Congrats and have a great day!!!
