drea: What computer have you successfully installed The Sims 3 on?
I am going to get The Sims 3, but I need to buy a new computer. I want to know what computers (factory shipped condition) it has been successfully installed on, so I know that once I get it then it will work.

Answer by JonRThe Sims 3 does not require very high end components. Any mid range or better PC/Mac should run it fine. As with any game if you want it to look the best go for a higher end PC (more memory, better GPU and CPU).
The minimum requirements can be found here: https://help.ea.com/en/the-sims/
Minimum system requirements for The Sims 3:
Windows XP
Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
1 GB RAM
At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
128 MB video card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
Windows Vista
Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
1.5 GB RAM
At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
128 MB video card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:
Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA X3000 or above
2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
0.5 GB additional RAM
Mac System Requirements
Mac OS 10.5.7 Leopard or higher
Intel Core Duo Processor
2 GB of RAM
At least 6.5 free hard drive space, with at least 1GB additional space for custom content
ATI X1600 or Nvidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
Supported video cards: ATI Radeon™ series X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600, HD 3870, HD 4850, HD 4870; NVIDIA GeForce series 7300, 7600, 8600, 8800, 9400M, 9600M GT, GT 120, GT 130; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) GMA 3-Series. This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems, or the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards. Laptop version of these chipsets may work but are not supported.
Supported Video Cards
NVIDIA GeForce series
FX 5900, FX 5950
6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
9600, 9800, GTX 260, GTX 280
ATI Radeon™ series
9500, 9600, 9800
X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950

3450, 3650, 3850, 3870,
4850, 4870
Intel® Extreme Graphics
GMA X3x00 series
Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slower. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly. Intel integrated chipsets featuring underclocked parts will not perform adequately.
Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.
The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.
Note: Attempting to play the game using video hardware that isn’t listed above may result in reduced performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not run at all.
Also FYI I can confirm it runs fine on Windows 7 as well, just use the Vista requirements.

I don’t know how to explain what kind of computer I have – it’s a 1 year old Dell Desktop with Windows XP. The Sims 2 ran perfectly, now The Sims 3 was running strangely and (just as the person above me said), the graphics were really crappy. I assumed my graphics card wasn’t up-to-par and decided to just deal with it, but now my game crashed and won’t really play at all, so I’m assuming it’s a system requirement other than just the graphics card that isn’t working. Any ideas/help/comments/tips? Thanks! (P.S. Unbelieveable – you shouldn’t have to buy a new computer just to play a new computer game!!)Answer by Sammy B
I have a toshiba satellite and it works perfectly!!!Answer by hey you
Finally an intelligent question!!!!!!!!! Someone’s been doing their homework! The Sims 3 is kinda bugged and if you don’t have a good comp it would probably be best to with hold from buying it (unless you need the collector’s ed). I am using a Dell 9150, and the bugs have only bothered me twice, both times it may have been my cat putting her head on the esc key though, idk. Hope this helps!Answer by God
none =(Answer by mylilsims
I have it on a Asus dual core 2.4 GHZ with 3 GB memory and a NVIDIA 6150 turbo cached (on-board) with 256 MB dedicated system I bought at Best Buy 2 years ago
It plays well with a lil bit of lag when creating a sim
In all honesty though you can get a good system and upgrade the Video card and power supply (sometimes needed) with about 750.00 or less even
Tiger direct had a system on sale that will play it very well as is and Best buy has one on sale that will only need a graphics card that can be got for 60.00
It does not require a great deal to play like YS2 did
