Pat S: What are the chances of my mom getting a kidney donation?
My mom needs a kidney transplant. She is of Hispanic decent. We live in an area of the USA that consists mostly of a Caucasian population. I know the kidney has to match perfectly for the recipient to even be considered for getting the organ. Is her chances better if we lived in a more diverse community that has a large Hispanic population? I don’t want my mom waiting & her chance of getting a match are slim because of where she lives. Help me out.

Your location doesnt have to do with the likelyhood of your mom getting a Kidney. However, just be sure that your mom is doing everything that she can to stay healthy. No eating potassium and sodium. If your mom is on the National Transplant list then she will get a kidney when her name is on the list. It goes by the day you signed up and your blood and tissue type. Does she have any brothers or sisters? those are the best chance for a perfect match. Sadly, my mom didn’t make it to receive her transplant. She was on dialysis for a while but just never made it to get a transplant. I hope your mom has better luck. Good luck.
