anna_kouklitsa: Can the wife of a critically injured patient forbid his parents to see him in Argentina?
My brother is critically injured in an accident in Argentina. My parents have gone there to be near him. Our relation with his wife is very bad due to her money issues. She says that, by argentinian law, she can forbid my parents to see my brother in ICU. We are not argentinians. What is the case? Can she just do it?
Both she and we are not from argentina. But she threatened to do it if she didn’t get the money she thinks we owe her, when in fact it is my brother who was hiding the money from her before the accident.

Generally the spouse can make the rules if the patient is not able to. Thats in most countries by the way. Sorry : (
Even in the United States she can forbid them from visiting him in the ICU because she is next of kin.
Yes, I know it’s terrible but that’s just the way things work sometimes.
Answer by ~On~Speak to an Argentinian lawyer. While she may have the right, a lawyer may be able to get it waived.Answer by Kim
Give her some money and visit him. If she wants too much, ask around. Their are lots of people in Argentina who will break legs for a song, and for a little more, take even stronger measures. If she’s destitute or something though, help her out. It’s tough being down and out in Argentina, and it sounds like she might be in a bind. She’s you brothers wife for crying out loud.Answer by Bill S
