Tc C: Can International Student start a restuarant in the United Sates?
Hi, I am an international student who is studying in CA.
I cook well, so I want to rent a unit and open a small restaurant.
However, I am not really sure can I, as an international student would be able to start a restaurant here.
If yes, is it necessarily to apply any kind of license to run it.
Thanks!

I’m seriously wondering the same thing! Except, in my case, I have a few people working with me, and we’re opening the bakery in England
Moving on, I think as long as you’ve got a work permit, and you can afford it, there’re no objections.
No, you cannot. On a student visa you are not allowed to work for anyone/any place but part time for the college you are attending.Answer by Fred S
You are not allowed to work off-campus without an EAD card. Self-employment is employment. If you qualified for an EAD card, you are allowed to accept employment, even with your business because a company is a separate entity from its employees, but you cannot work more than 20 hours a week.
Your best bet would be to open a restaurant and not be involved in its day to day operation, i.e., don’t prepare the food, don’t operate the cash register, don’t mop the floor, etc. Just oversee its operation, and let the employees run the day to day activities. Hire a manager. It would be more like an investment than employment that way.
The license question is not an immigration question.
